As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) in Connecticut and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Washington State, I believe anyone can benefit from engaging in the therapeutic process. Each person experiences life and its obstacles differently and deserves the opportunity to find better ways to cope with the challenges unique to their lives.
I have a BA in psychology from Cal Poly Humboldt and an MA in counseling from Palo Alto University. While obtaining my education, I also worked in various service fields throughout California and Washington state, including assisting neurodivergent children in skill acquisition and adults in reacclimating towards housing in a homeless shelter housing program, being a caregiver in an assisted living facility and working as a telehealth intern and, later, post-graduation as an LMHCA at a behavioral health clinic.
For my approach, I like to draw and integrate various evidence-based theories and practices, including Psychodynamic theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strengths-based therapy through a trauma-informed lens. I believe it is vital to acknowledge past events that molded you and to identify your strengths and challenges. In looking at your strengths, we can explore what methods have already been effective in your life and help us continue to tailor solutions that work for you. By recognizing the difficulties and cognitive distortions in your life, you can begin to discard tools that no longer serve you, explore changes that are in your control, rebuild neural networks, ground yourself, and become more mindful in daily living. These actions can help develop healthier habits, coping mechanisms, better self-care standards, and higher self-conceptualizations.
Since August 2021, I have treated individuals with symptoms related to a variety of mental health diagnoses and challenges, including depression, BPD, DID, PTSD, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, identity exploration, and anxiety disorders. I have the most experience in working with individuals ranging in age from teens to seniors, those with lower socioeconomic statuses, in transitional housing or homeless individuals, people with chronic illness or living with disability, neurodivergent people, LBGTQIA++ people, individuals in high-stress work environments and people who come from rural backgrounds.
Sharing and vulnerability can be intimidating, so thank you for being brave and reaching out. I look forward to providing a safe environment while assisting you to the best of my ability throughout your mental health care journeys and explorations.
