Joel Garcia
LMFT | Therapist
My goal as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) has always been to meet individuals and families where they are at, while also supporting them in growing and healing. I work to create a peaceful and safe space by being my genuine and authentic self, while also incorporating humor because sometimes taking a step back is the best thing you can do.
I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2021. I obtained both my bachelors and masters from Central Connecticut State University. Since 2010, I have worked in the mental health field in several settings including therapeutic schools, in-home programs and crisis telephone lines. I graduated with my masters in 2019 and worked as a clinician in multiple programs including Multisystemic Therapy Building Stronger Families (MST-BSF) and Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT). I have also managed several programs including Young Adult Services (YAS), Extended Day Treatment (EDT), and an outpatient program during my time with Community Mental Health Affiliates.
I believe in using a collaborative approach when working with clients. I am trained in CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and multiple family therapy models. I am also certified in MDFT. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults dealing with numerous struggles including depression, anxiety, trauma, and suicidal ideation. I also have extensive professional and personal experience working with the Department of Children and Families as well as with children in the foster care system.
I look forward to meeting you and seeing where this journey takes you!
