Shannon Jacobs

LPC | Therapist

I have worked in the human services field for over 15 years, and I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Connecticut. I graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2012 with an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I have worked in a variety of settings throughout my career, and I greatly enjoy helping others reach their goals. I worked for 11 years with young adults diagnosed with ASD teaching independent living and social skills in a residential setting. In 2017 I transitioned to working full time as a mental health counselor.  I have experience working with children, young adults, families, and couples. I currently work as a counselor in an outpatient setting with adults engaged in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

I have always had a passion for helping others and as a therapist I take pride in working with individuals to recognize their strengths and abilities. I believe that therapy is a safe way to provide others with the space, knowledge, and skills to facilitate change and reach personal goals. I use a client-centered approach to therapy, and I take pride in creating a relaxed and judgement free zone. I know that coming into therapy is not always easy and I strive to meet my clients where they are and provide the needed support to help them on their journey. I have experience with CBT, solution-focused therapy, family systems therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).

I made the decision to become a therapist because I want to support others as they grow and adjust to the many changes of life. I hope that I can have the opportunity to work with you to develop a toolbox of skills and strategies that can help you manage day to day life in a fulfilling and productive manner.
